Fineness, brilliance and quality are some of the words that come to mind whenever the word excellence is mentioned. It is however not limited to the above mentioned words, but for the purposes of our discussion, it will suffice. How many times have you paid for a service and received less than satisfactory service. Think about the day at work when you are most satisfied. Is it when you have put in the bare minimum or when you have gone beyond the call of duty and unleashed your brilliance in doing the work assigned to you to do?
I know that it is easy to do excellent work where it's appreciated, but even when you do not work for a good boss you should be excellent. Excellence surpasses previous records in terms of quality of output. It affects the way we relate as friends, colleagues, relatives and spouses. Excellent people will transform something mundane into a master piece. Even the way they prepare a simple meal or clean the house exudes brilliancy. There are obvious qualities that these people possess and I list eight of them which I have called fundamental ingredients of excellence.
1. Excellent people possess a mindset of possibility thinking. Where others say it can't be done, an excellent person seizes the opportunity to unleash greatness and a touch of class.
2. A no - nonsense attitude from self first then from others. An n excellent person puts their best foot forward and expects others to do the same.
3. Excellent people always start a task having made a decision to always extend themselves to go the extra-mile
4. They organize their thoughts excellently and as a result their actions must follow suit.
5. They see themselves as a brand and do not associate that brand with ventures that may taint the image and negatively affect the perception of that brand. Be careful who you partner with. If you partner on the basis of weakness you will become weaker.
6. Excellence has a flavor. Your personal touch will spice up that which would otherwise be bland or boring. Excellence does not just produce musicians, it produces superstars. It doesn't produce graduates but geniuses, why because you are not born with it. You can acquire it.
7. Discipline order, procedure and willingness to go through the process without pride or prejudice will create excellence. Excellent people create excellent systems and mechanisms for accountability for their output.
8. Excellent people are those that separate themselves from the crowd and distinguish themselves head and shoulders above the race, not because they are prideful, spiteful and hateful, but because they know their strength and wholeheartedly commit themselves to a cause.
Excellence will open doors and create opportunities either socially, economically and in almost every other area of life you can think of. I am of the strong opinion that excellent people, maybe in an unfortunate position in life today but watch that person and notice that it will be a matter of time before somebody recognizes and rewards such brilliance.
