Thinking Of Hiring A Cook? Get Organized First!

It may sound like something straight out of a book or movie, but in truth a fair number of Americans are hiring cooks, just as many hire lawn services, pet-sitting services, or in-home daycare. With the lifestyle so many of us live, it can be nearly impossible to prepare, serve and clean up from a balanced meal. Between school, work, sports, academic events and evening meetings, there may seem to be no time to cook. The alternative? For a lot of us that means skipping meals, grabbing odd bites of leftovers of something pre-packaged, or eating fast food. None of these options are real solutions, particularly when our sedentary lifestyle and work habits have led so many of us to be obese.
Hiring a cook may seem like an extreme solution, but it can be a way to get you through some tough times like the Holiday season or something similar. Before you bring someone on board to help plan meals, shop for groceries, and prepare food, you may want to take a look at the environment you'll have to offer them. Is your kitchen set to accommodate a new person? Probably not.
First give some thought to the type of kitchen organizers you may need in order to streamline the cook's efforts. Do any of your cabinets threaten to burst from the excess stuffed inside? Will all your pot lids slide to the floor if the cook opens that cabinet?
There are special kitchen organizers designed to hold pot lids upright in a row. Given their odd shape, the presence of pot lids in the same cabinet as pots can mean a lot of stacking and re-stacking when you're trying to access a particular item for cooking. But if you isolate the lids and contain them well, you can stack pots and pans much more easily and with less noise.
Another one of my favorite kitchen organizers is the spice rack. If you're afraid of your canisters knocking the new cook on the head while searching for the garlic, you might want to pick one of those beauties up.
What other ways might you get organized in preparation for some help cooking?
